Who was Ahmaud Arbery? Who killed him? Why is the case so controversial? A case of racism?
On February 23, Ahmaud Arbery (25), was jogging in the city of Brunswick, Georgia, when a former policeman and his son, both white, got out of their car and shot him.
They thought Arbery was a burglar and claimed that when they stopped to talk to him, Arbery hit them.
NO ONE WAS ARRESTED.
One prosecutor said they acted within the state’s laws. In other words, as Arbery allegedly attacked them, they were allowed to kill him.
Last week, a video of the shooting (recorded by a neighbor) was released publicly.
People think Arbery was killed solely because of his race and are complaining about the prosecutors’ response.
Last week, Gregory McMichael and his son Travis, were arrested and charged with the murder of Arbery, but questions have arisen as to why it took so long for those arrests to be made. The attorney general wants the DOJ to look into the two district attorneys who were first assigned to the case.
