Give me context… Iran has declared that it will no longer abide by any of the restrictions imposed by the 2015 nuclear deal. The announcement comes after the U.S killed one of Iran’s most powerful leaders. Yes, Iran is very pissed.
What nuclear deal? The UN, the U.S and Europe believed Iran was building nuclear weapons and imposed economic sanctions in Iran (basically, they prohibit almost all trade relations with Iran, making Iran’s economy to collapse). But in 2015, a deal was reached.
The nuclear deal was signed by Iran, the U.S, the UK, Germany, France, China, Russia and Europe.
- In the deal Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities (it gives up 97% of its uranium, most of its centrifuges and allows foreign inspections).
- In exchange, economic sanctions in Iran would be reduced.
The problem. In 2018, Trump said Iran was still building nuclear weapons, pulled the U.S out of the deal and the economic sanctions were reimposed.
What now? Iran has announced that it will continue its nuclear enrichment with no limitations and based on its technical needs.
